| FINANCE CORNWALL BACKS TOXIN FREE PAINT OF THE FUTURE |
Toxin-free paints will be produced in Cornwall by ecological company Nature Paint Limited thanks to investment from Finance Cornwall. Nature Paint Ltd formulates, manufactures and sells a range of non-toxic paints for home and office decorating and the Finance Cornwall investment will assist in setting up a new manufacturing facility in Cornwall, close to sources of the mainly Cornish raw materials used to make the paint.
Investment, which has also involved the South West Investment Group (SWIG) and Royal Bank of Scotland, will further provide working capital to fulfil orders and employ marketing and sales staff in Cornwall and elsewhere. Naturepaint® is distributed as dry powders, which the user mixes with tap water to create colourful durable decorating paints free from volatile solvents, hazardous toxins and known carcinogens. In comparison, synthetic and petrochemical paints may contain up to 300 toxins, around 50% of which are known or suspected carcinogens. Because Naturepaint® is distributed dry, and is free from hazardous chemicals, so it can be readily transported and exported with minimum bulk and weight. The end product is also biodegradeable and compostable and the packaging is 99.9% recycleable.
Ross Harling, principal of the company, says: “As people become more aware of the impact of chemical pollution in the environment, and particularly inside their homes, the demand for safer natural materials is increasing. Because we strive to make Naturepaint® as eco-friendly as possible, it makes sense to move closer to where our raw materials come from. Cornwall is not only a source, but also an inspiration for new environmental technologies, and we look forward to working with similarly minded groups, businesses and organisations throughout the South West.” Robert Seymour, Managing Director of Finance Cornwall Fund Managers, said: “Now I am aware of Naturepaint®, I would not use anything else! The paint looks good, is biodegradable, and the packaging is 99.9% recycleable. It is in a dry form so can be shipped internationally, unlike liquids, and it is also lighter, so uses less packaging and fuel. Naturepaint® is a great, forward-thinking business idea and one I am delighted to be associated with. I wish them every success.” John Peters, fund manager at the South West Investor Group, said: “The prospect of Nature Paint relocating to Cornwall is an exciting one; it is innovative, green, and has the potential to make a significant contribution to our local economy.”
Nature Paint is currently based in Wiltshire but is relocating to Cornwall within the next 3 months. ENDS
